S1 E3: The Test

Hello again.

It has been a few weeks since I have had a few moments to collect my thoughts and put them to words. A lot has happened in a short amount of time. Seemingly never enough time in the day to do all that needs to be done. Juggling work and family can be tough as we all know. However, lets talk shop. My last attempt at a Mock inspection did not go as planned.

We were slotted to inspect a 4 unit home in the heart of the City of Buffalo. Upon arriving we quickly discovered that the tenants of this apartment building were not made aware of the fact that nearly 20 people would be poking around their apartments. To add to it all, the “smell” of illegal substances were nearly overwhelming at times. One tenant did allow us into his apartment, all be it short lived. By the time I was able make my way up into his unit from the basement he had become agitated and decided he wasn’t to happy at the idea of us taking pictures of his apartment and its contents. So to say the least, we ended the inspections and I offered to delete the few pictures I managed to get of his unit. It was my hope that I would have gotten the experience of inspecting a full 4 unit building… AH well.. on to the next!

The Business End of It:

So far this week a number of things have happened that is progressing the completion of the business set up.

  • Final week of Legal noticed in the Cuba Patriot & Hornell Evening Tribune
  • General Liability has gone into effect & down payment made
  • Started reaching out to Realtors in the Wellsville Market

And last, and MOST exciting….. I have taken my exam to become a Home Inspector.

This was a bit of a worry some test for me. I don’t usually get bothered by much but the gravity of it all had me really thinking about it. I wanted to know I was going to pass. As obvious as that sounds, since anyone would want to pass an exam, I am feeling the pressure. This is the one big thing that can delay the entire process for my timeline. I really want to be up and running by January 1, 2021. That can still happen if for some reason I fail, however I really want to push myself to have it done sooner.

I walked out of the exam today feeling great about the test. Out of 100 questions I think there were about 10 or 11 that I needed to circle back to and really try and think to get the right answer. I’m not going to lie, I flat out had to guess at two of them. We were not allowed to use any sort of book or a phone to look up anything and if found doing so, we would be immediately removed from the exam. I did get into the car and immediately look those questions up and I am quite confident I guessed right. A little common sense goes a long way I suppose. The down side to it all, I have to wait 2-3 weeks before I am able to find out if I passed or not. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

This is a short and sweet post for me but I wanted to make myself write something and hold myself accountable to what I said I wanted to do. No matter how little time we think we have, we can always make room for what is important to ourselves. Starting my own business is pretty darn high on the list for me these days. It is my hope that I am making my family and the few close friends I have proud of me. With out their support I would be who I am today.

Have a Happy Halloween Everyone! Wash your hands!

Here is a picture of me for no reason!
