S1 E4: The Waiting Game

Now, those of you that know me, know that I am probably the MOST impatient person there is, That being said, this is getting out of hand! Since we last chatted, I had taken my NYS exam prior to finishing my mandated schooling. At that time I was told by the person proctoring the exam to expect my results in 2-3 weeks. Man was I excited to get those results!

To say the least, that time frame has not happen. (Insert crying emoji here) We are now at 5+ weeks and I have yet to hear from the state, good or bad. I have attempted to reach out a few times to no avail. Most recently, I was able to reach a very nice customer service rep that was able to send in some sort of “ticket” that was going to prompt the exam unit’s supervisors to find out what was delaying my results. “At least this guy gets it!”, I thought to myself! Not that it’s actually changing anything. All I can think is, by the time I actually get my results, they better be passing since I dont want to have to wait another eternity.

WANT TO HEAR A FUNNY STORY?

Just about the 3 week mark that I was expecting to hear from the licensing department, I did in fact get a notification from the Post Office that I should be expecting a letter from the licensing department. Now you must be as excited as me, right? Well, Settle down because you are in for some disappointment just like I was. The informed mail notification that I got, WAS in fact addressed to my mailing address but NOT to me. (Insert more of those damn crying emoji’s). After some internet snooping, The person it was addressed to used to have my PO Box and is in fact licensed in the state of New York as a Notary…. Well if that isn’t the biggest of all the coincidences?

SCHOOL

OK, so it wasn’t that funny… to me at least. Maybe in a year or so when I am able to ACTUALLY Inspect a home! So, I put my head down and proceed through life.

I am happy to report that not only was I able to complete the coursework with C.A.T.S., but I was also the only 1 of the other 7 of my graduating class to complete the 10 required mock inspections. I managed to make every mock a priority and attend every one possible. We had numerous cancellation and the instructors were great in allowing me to inspect 2 homes in which were family or friends.

So with a great girlfriend and a supportive mother, I was able to get the 2 in that was needed to finish my schooling and obtain the 5 certificates that is required by the state.

REPORTING SOFTWARE:

One thing I would like to see for myself while starting this business is, setting myself apart from the rest! It really is a goal to be the BEST home inspector in the area. I believe the way to accomplish that is by providing an easy to read report that is is dynamic and user friendly, not only for you as a buyer but for your realtor.

I do believe I have found that! With all this free time I have found a software package that allows for text alerts as well as online scheduling/rescheduling. In addition, Your realtor will have access to this report if you so chose and will be able to use the information already.

If you are a realtor, check out how convenient my reports can be for you and your business. If you are a buyer, check it out and let your realtor know how handy this will be for them!

BYE FOR NOW:

That brings us up to speed for the time being as far as business is concerned.

It is my hope that you and your families are having a wonderful holiday season. Stay healthy, stay happy and wash your hands!
